And what about the smell? Aedes de Venustas 16a Orchard marks a moment of rebirth, a perfume for the skin that adapts to those who wear it with natural and venerated roots.
He was commissioned to celebrate the reinvention of Aedes Perfumery and move to 16th Orchard Street, in the "Lower" Lower East Side of New York City, a lively area that attracts a trendy and diversified audience, where tunnels, skater, coffee and small shops Exclusive create crackling energy and enthusiasm. In 2021, he took on a deeper meaning for the founders of Aedes de Venustas, Robert Gerstner and Karl Bradl. "Every single soul has gone through a huge change in his life," says Gerstner. "During this period, we rooted here, in this neighborhood that represents the turnover of New York City, we unknowingly made something much more important".
Not only a smell, but a feeling. Something that is cultivated and then grows. "My goal was to create a sense of emotional well -being through a simplistic fragrance structure," says perfumer Frank Voelkl. "The use of ingredients extracted from natural roots such as ginger and Iris binds us to our land, making us feel rooted and centered." But instead of recognizing a single note or category of fragrance, 16a orchard presents itself as a little a mystery. "You don't know what to do immediately, and this is what makes it interesting," says Gerstner. "You can't understand it precisely. This is also the essence of the Lower East Side. He teaches you to think - and live - outside the box.
The earthly materials become planes in the hands of Voelkl. Ginger raises questions, takes you out of course. The Iris brings you back to the center of attention as it reveals cold but delicate quality. The cotogly apple and the thrush amplify the roots. Dry cedar wood and tonka similar to cashmere create a spicy and dry roundness for more ephemeral notes of bergamot, lemon, cardamom and jasmine.
Aedes de Venustas 16a Orchard is presented in a precious pot: a grooved glass bottle characterized by peacock accents, a matte black cap with printed coats of arms and an elegant but heavy design that marks the next chapter in the history of Aedes de Venustas.
