In classical mythology we speak of semide, children of a divine and a human being, or a mortal that has been elevated to divine status. An ancient Greek poet used the word demigod as a synonym of hero. They are those who have shown strength and power, the will to face challenges and danger.
In the new world there have been explorers who discovered unknown lands. They too were heroes who fought the forces of nature to seek unknown territories. And throughout history there have been scientists, artists, composers and actors - all heroes in their own way.
The new heroes are born every day. There is an element, or an event, or a circumstance, or perhaps just a whim in their personality that changes them, giving them a force such as to overcome the ordinary. They believe in something different, in something better. They want to change the rules, break the rules, change the status quo. In anything, big or small, they find them meaning. They are traveling and perhaps and the same attempt that makes them extraordinary people.
For some, their efforts bring fame and glory. Many others remain unknown. But they can't - they don't have to - be ignored. These are our followers, the extraordinary citizens of Etat Libre d'Orange, the free state of Orange. Without compromise, unexpected, unconventional, unpredictable people.
